Comme des Garcons founder and avant-garde legend Rei Kawakubo rarely grants interviews. And when she does, she tends to describe her approach as follows: “It’s always the same with each and every collection … it’s about designing something new; something that hasn’t been done before.” For more than four decades, Kawakubo has managed to find ever-new facets in the Comme de Garçons brand, supported by disciples like Junya Watanabe, Fumito Ganryu or Tao Kurihara. The beloved logo of the Comme des Garcons Play line, a happy heart with eyes, comes courtesy of New York graphic designer Filip Pagowski. It graces a growing range of sneakers (Converse), shirts and t-shirts.
